Alleged South African Military Supply to Russia: Impact Forecast
Background
On the 11th of May, U. S. Ambassador Reuben Brigety accused South Africa of supplying military equipment to Russia. This accusation arose after a cargo ship, Lady R, was linked to a sanctioned company that docked secretly at a naval base near the city of Cape Town.
Despite a lack of evidence, President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed an independent body to investigate. The accusation comes at a time of increasing South African-Russian relations. If the alleged arms trade with Russia is proven to be accurate, it will significantly threaten South Africa`s relationship with the United States, a key trading partner in Africa.

AC-130 Gunship: The Ghostrider
The AC-130 gunship is a ground attack aircraft used by the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). Since its development and fielding in the 1960s, the AC-130 has showcased its diverse utility in an array of 21st-century conflicts.
1. History of the AC-130
Historically speaking, the AC-130 gunship is a modern aircraft. Although six decades have passed since its initial development, it continues to serve the nation, and is a testament to modern technological advancement in avionic and defense technology.
Korea and the Lockheed C-130 Hercules
By and large, the early history of the AC-130 begins with the Korean War (1950-1953). During the war, the Air Force Tactical Air Command realized a weakness in its fleet. Specifically, the lack of an efficient medium-cargo tactical transport aircraft. (source)
In 1951, the Air Force drafted its first design for the C-130.

Food Insecurity in Western and Central Africa
48 million people are currently facing food insecurity in West and Central Africa, spurred by COVID-19, climate change, the war in Ukraine, and long-term instability.
One step away from famine, the region is experiencing its highest level of food insecurity in a decade. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) plans to provide $2 billion in life-saving assistance to support people.
Yet, Africa should focus on building stronger food systems and more diversified supply chains to limit similar crises in the long term.
Key Judgement 1: The current assistance is unlikely to be sufficient to curb the hunger crisis in the next 12 months.
Key Judgement 2: A whole-of-the-society approach is likely more efficient to cope with food insecurity in the region in the next 12 months.
Key Judgement 3: Structural and institutional changes are highly likely to be necessary to enhance the region’s resilience in the next 12 months.

Chinese Strategy in the South China Sea: A Geospatial Analysis
The South China Sea is home to a number of territorial claims from China. These include Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, and Malaysia. Over the years, some of the claimant countries have used fishing and natural resource extraction operations to advance their claims. China has even constructed artificial islands to support their rights in the sea. As a result of the competing claims and the variety of economic and political developments in the South China Sea, the Chinese Communist Party will continue agressive policies in a number of overt and covert ways.
Key Judgment-1: China will continue to be aggressive towards regional powers in the South China Sea but will not initiate conflict in the next 12 months.
Key Judgment-2: Regional powers, particularly the Philippines and Vietnam, will create stronger partnerships with the United States to counter China in the next 12 months.
Key Judgment-3: China will work to strengthen relations with Malaysia in order to ensure extended maritime access through the Malacca Strait in the next 12 months.

Malhama Tactical: Extremists for Hire
1. Intro
Malhama Tactical is a young but highly active “j!had b4sed” private military contractor (PMC). The name “Malhama” is derived from Hadith literature describing end-time events. The group is relatively small compared to Western PMCs; however, it saw relative success in Syria, its primary area of operations. Malhalma mainly acts as a training and consulting group for other organizations.
Although it is known to engage in combat on occasion. In 2017 Foreign Policy labelled them the “Blackwater of j!had”, a reference to the highly controversial American PMC. However, this is unfair for two reasons. It’s unfair to millions of peaceful Muslims worldwide. In Arabic, the term j1had basically means a struggle, and usually not militant, but unfortunately, it has become synonymous with terr0rism.
