Benin: Assessing Violent Extremism

Insecurity in Benin has sharply increased as violent extremism spreads to West Africa. Indeed, the Islamic State Sahel Province and al-Qaeda-linked Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin are opening a new front in the northern regions of Benin bordering Burkina Faso and Niger. Thus, increased military cooperation to combat the jihadist threat in France and Rwanda is to be expected in the next 12 months.
