Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)- A Situational Assessment

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is the last major threat to President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria. This is because of their refusal to engage in any peace talks and their highly organised nature.

Due to their steadfast refusal to make peace with Assad’s regime , HTS continues to launch attacks on enemy forces. Furthermore, as Turkey abandons rebel groups they previously backed, these fighters will likely fall under the HTS umbrella.

In addition, with Turkey increasingly worsening relations over various issues with other NATO members, it is unlikely that the US will help them by striking at HTS.
