Since their revolution, authoritarianism in Tunisia has seen a resurgence as they depart from democratic values. In 2011, Tunisia was the first country to revolt in what would become the Arab Spring. Since then, Tunisia’s leaders have turned away from the nation’s democratic aspirations and President Kais Saied has sought to increase his power. The President’s moves towards authoritarianism drive instability that pushes international organizations and investors away from the North African state. These developments have presented new challenges and increased instability in Tunisia’s long-term outlook.
