On 23 June 2023, Wagner PMC forces crossed the state border of Ukraine into Russia’s Rostov-on-Don region. According to Wagner Chief Evgeny Prigozhin, the Russian Ministry of Defence intentionally conducted airstrikes against his mercenary forces. After rapidly overrunning the command headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov, Wagner forces pushed north. The Wagner revolt has left the Kremlin reeling.
