UNIFIL: A Situational Assessment

The United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) is under intense pressure after an attack killed and wounded multiple Irish peacekeepers. With Hezbollah likely involved in the attack, tensions between UNIFIL and Hezbollah will escalate further. Hezbollah and Israeli relations will also worsen as the southern border of Lebanon will be patrolled less by UNIFIL for fear of attack. Furthermore, it is clear that this attack will lead to Ireland re-examining its relationship with UN peacekeeping operations.
