Executive Summary
Artificial Intelligence gun detection systems identify firearms in real-time video feeds, alert relevant authorities, and trigger emergency response protocols. These detectors are trained on images of guns in diverse environments and angles. Therefore, allowing the system to identify the type of weapons in a matter of seconds. The new AI systems build upon previous computer-driven platforms that identify gunshots. Once identified, the systems triangulate the location of the shooter when the round is discharged and alert the authorities. While these systems can improve law enforcement response times after a gun is exposed, they cannot always prevent gun violence. The systems continue to suffer from technical failures and limitations. This requires them to be paired with other threat detection systems to play a more effective role in threat mitigation.
