Executive Summary 

Global militaries are experimenting with the production of offensive and defensive weaponry through 3D printing, a trend that is likely to continue, if not accelerate, if field trials are successful. The U.S. military, in particular, is also laying the groundwork to use 3D printing to produce equipment in the field at a pace that suggests actual field use will be realised by 2027. Militaries’ attempts to strengthen supply chains through 3D printing, if proven successful over the long term, will likely usher in a new era in armed forces logistics.
