Turkey in West Africa: A 12-month Outlook

Recent years have seen an increased Turkish interest in West Africa. Turkish President Erdogan is balancing efficient diplomacy with circumventing established external actors to promote and embrace Turkish interests in the region. From technical and research support to arms trade and training, Turkey is capitalising on the deficit of France’s legitimacy as a security provider on the one hand and the diminishing regional stability on the other.
