Iran’s Qaher-313: Capabilities, Status, Strategic Implications

Executive Summary

Iran is making notable progress in developing indigenous, carrier-based unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Specifically, this initiative converts the previously controversial Qaher-313 manned fighter project, perceived as a propaganda tool, into the Jas-313 drone. In doing so, Iran aims to significantly enhance its naval aviation capabilities. It also aims to foster greater self-reliance in defence in the face of international sanctions. However, international military analysts remain sceptical about the drones’ true operational readiness. This is coupled with the scarce public release of comprehensive flight data. This casts significant doubt on the drones’ immediate impact and effectiveness.
