Antisemitism: Increased Attacks on Jews Likely to Continue

Executive Summary

We assess that the sharp rise in antisemitic incidents in Western countries over the past year is primarily driven by Israel’s current involvement in Gaza, and that political extremism on both ends of the spectrum and unregulated messaging on online platforms are contributing to the problem. Further, we believe that incidents, including violence, targeting members of the Jewish diaspora are likely to remain at elevated levels as long as Israel’s offensive in Gaza continues.

Israel began its military operation in the Gaza Strip in 2023, following Hamas’s 7 October attack that killed over 1200 people in Israel and took roughly 250 hostages. The situation in Gaza since then has been marked by extensive violence.
