Executive Summary
The European Union this year began increasing counternarcotics cooperation with Latin American countries in the fight against organised crime. This liaison follows trends of increased seizures of illegal drugs, as well as drug consumption across the European continent. Furthermore, cooperation amongst organised crime groups in both regions has increased, including sharing tactics and drug production ‘recipes.’ Therefore, international cooperation to tackle these organisations must involve equal cooperation between institutions in both regions. Moreover, to be most effective, it will need to reconsider long-standing strategies.
