Russian Drones Program: Destruction from Above

Russia is increasing the use of drone technology in the war with Ukraine, including kamikaze drones and integrating commercial technologies like Starlink to expand battlefield capabilities. Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, it has suffered major losses of human life and had its economy squeezed by international sanctions. This has led to the strengthening of relationships with China, Iran, and North Korea. Russia is dependent on the import of weapons and parts from its three partner nations to maintain its assault on Ukraine. However, Russia is making efforts to increase its domestic production capabilities and reduce reliance on imports from other countries.

Key Judgment 1. It is highly likely that Russia will continue to increase the use of drone technology, including kamikaze drones, throughout the conflict in Ukraine.

Key Judgment 2. It is highly likely that Russia will continue to test new platforms and technologies for expanded capabilities and effectiveness.

Key Judgment 3. It is highly likely that Russia will try to continue expanding foreign and domestic supply chains to source drones and drone parts.
