Intelligence Dissemination Fundamentals: Report Writing and Briefing Course

Self-paced
Online
Accredited

Intelligence Dissemination Fundamentals is a self-paced, accredited online course on intelligence report writing, intelligence briefing and BLUF (bottom line up front). It is accredited under the University of Salford QCPD scheme and takes about five hours to complete. Once intelligence analysts finalise their product, they must ensure it reaches the right customers. Intelligence dissemination can be challenging, especially with a large customer base. For a smaller audience, comprehension often requires briefing.

This course tackles the complexities of getting intelligence into the hands of those who need it most.

Delivering the Goods

  • Understanding Your Audience: The course covers the importance of tailoring dissemination strategies to specific intelligence customers. Different customers, from policymakers to military commanders, have varying needs and preferred formats for receiving intelligence.
  • The Dissemination Challenge: You’ll explore the challenges inherent in dissemination, such as tailoring information to diverse audiences, managing information overload, and ensuring timely delivery while upholding security protocols.

Dissemination Methods

  • Tailored Delivery: This section covers the dissemination methods used to cater to different customer preferences, including:
    • Briefings: Delivering intelligence in person or virtually, often used for complex or time-sensitive information.
    • Written Reports: Formal reports providing a comprehensive analysis of a particular issue.
    • Intelligence Summaries: Condensed reports highlighting key findings for quick consumption.
  • Visualisation Tools: Using charts, graphs, and other visuals to present intelligence effectively.
  • Security Considerations: The course explains the importance of adhering to security classifications and access restrictions while disseminating intelligence, and the measures that prevent unauthorised access or inadvertent leaks.

Effective Communication

  • Clarity and Concision: You will learn the importance of clear and concise communication when disseminating intelligence. Highlighting key findings and avoiding jargon ensures the information is readily understood by the customer.
  • Timeliness and Relevance: The course covers the importance of delivering intelligence in a timely manner, ensuring it remains relevant to the customer’s decision-making needs.

The Evolving Landscape

  • Emerging Technologies: This section explains how new technologies are shaping intelligence dissemination: secure communication platforms, real-time data sharing capabilities, and collaborative intelligence tools.
  • The Future of Dissemination: You will learn about potential future trends in dissemination, such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for personalised intelligence delivery or the integration of social media for broader information sharing (within security constraints).

For privacy and accessibility issues please email privacy@greydynamics.com or accessibility@greydynamics.com as appropriate.

Intelligence work is extremely broad and each case is different. Intelligence work ranges from normal office work to physically and mentally demanding activity.

Some roles, particularly those in the military or law enforcement, have physical requirements that are required by the institution rather than the role itself.

Additionally, some workplaces are better able to meet accessibility requirements than others. We recommend potential learners search for the specific roles or organisations that interest them and check those organisations’ requirements and accessibility policies before committing to our course.

Be aware that many organisations accommodate audio or visual impairment in some roles, but not all organisations or governments globally are required by law to make reasonable accommodations.

Our regular course content functions with accessibility tools like subtitles and altering the speed and quality of the videos to ensure learners have a consistent experience regardless of their circumstances.

However, some written course material (i.e. historical documents), may not function with accessibility tools like read-aloud as they are scanned pdfs of varying quality.
