Canada is one of the most important Arctic Council nations. In terms of land ownership, the Arctic comprises 40% of its total land mass, and 75% of its national coastline. Additionally, Canada, along with the United States (US), form the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). To support the NORAD mission, Canada is home to critical radar surveillance infrastructure. As a result, Canada is an essential part of North American security. This report will provide three judgements on Canadian Arctic policy over the next 12 months. These judgements are based on assessments regarding regional security threats, NORAD modernisation, and the social sphere of Canadian Arctic policy.
