Arctic Forecast 2025: USA

The United States has bolstered its Arctic capabilities throughout 2024, including the investment and utilisation of more advanced Arctic-capable technologies, like the launching of the new Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission (ASBM) set of satellites to provide secure communications to polar forces in the region. This comes in light of increased military activities by Russia in the region as well as increased Russia-China cooperation. This has increased fears that the two adversaries may be cooperating in an area in which the US lags in terms of both investment and capabilities. In response to this, the USA has increased cooperation with NATO allies, including the two newest Arctic adjacent members, Finland and Sweden. Additionally, the effects of climate change have opened up new avenues for the US to exploit, allowing for further engagement in the Arctic region.
