Threat Environment in Gaza: Humanitarian Workers Rising Death Toll

Executive Summary

The escalation of the war in Gaza makes humanitarian workers more vulnerable than ever. Aid workers in Gaza currently face a high risk of injury and death given the constant attacks to humanitarian facilities and transportation, and we do not see any indications that this trend will change in the coming months. As a result, 2023 and 2024 were the two deadliest years for humanitarian workers in history, with the war in Gaza driving the escalation in casualties. Additionally, the workers are very often unable to do their jobs. Relevantly, they face security restrictions that interfere with their ability to deliver life-saving food, medicine and services.
