HTS-led Syria: Security and Police Restructuring

The HTS-led transitional government reportedly is implementing Islamic law-related reforms in its reorganization of police and security forces. This is happening in the context of the late 2024 fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, which profoundly affected the Syrian security landscape. Nonetheless, resistance, criminal networks, and the incoming pressure from external actors present challenges to HTS’s intentions. There is debate on the narratives surrounding HTS and the current government, and the organization is under careful scrutiny.
