Syrian Transition: New Administration Attempts to Stabilise the Chaos

Days after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Syrian Transition Government continues efforts to steer the country towards stabilization. Damascus’s latest directives point toward the disbandment of armed militias and the establishment of a functional administration. Furthermore, the transitional administration increased the number of diplomatic engagements in an attempt to gain recognition within the international community and build more trust with its military allies.

Among the current challenges of national stability are both the sectarian conflicts in the east and the intervention of Israel and Turkey in the northern and western borders. The Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) escalated its military offensive against Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions in Manjib and Kobane, resulting in hundreds of fatalities, including unarmed civilians. Meanwhile, Israel is increasing the scope of its military operation inside Syria’s western borders with no signs of stopping.
