The Role of Lithium in Latin America: A 24-month Forecast

Latin America is home to large lithium reserves, especially in the “Lithium Triangle” or “Trifinio”. This includes Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. These countries hold most of the world’s lithium reserves, with Chile being the second world’s largest producer. The abundance of lithium resources in the region positions Latin America as a crucial player in the global supply chain. Lithium extraction presents economic opportunities for Latin American countries. However, it also raises environmental concerns, especially related to water supply. Furthermore, it also has social implications, such as land rights, indigenous rights and the displacement of local communities.
