Executive Summary

The US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has faced funding issues since 2019, despite the significant increase of requests for its support from Combatant Commands. SOCOM is the command element that supervises the special operations of the military corps. It oversees the training, strategies, interoperability and operations. SOCOM and the corps of special operations forces that it oversees are fundamental tools of deterrence and alternative warfare. They are a critical part of U.S. national security. However, Congress members and officials recently expressed concern over last year’s budget. Furthermore there are newly announced cuts to the Department of Defence (DOD), both of which raise questions about USSOCOM’s future.
