International School Shootings: Does the U.S. inspire others?

Executive Summary

School shootings, mainly seen as unique to the US, are, however, increasingly becoming a global threat. While the US continues to suffer the most from these attacks, recent incidents in countries like Serbia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Finland, and Russia suggest a pattern of international emulation. In February this year, Sweden suffered the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history” at Risbergska school in Örebro.

One of the 1999 Columbine shooters bragged, “I know we’re gonna have followers.” Subsequent attacks appear to validate his prediction, not just in the US but globally. [source, source
