The Latin Dragon: Growing Cuba-China Relations

Cuba-China relations have increased recently with the reported construction of radar and also surveillance facilities in Cuba by China being evidence of this. Cuban cooperation with China in constructing these facilities aims to disrupt the traditional hegemony of the United States in the Western Hemisphere and also Latin America. US politicians and spokespeople have also increased their warnings against the furthering of Chinese influence in Cuba. This is because it is regarded as a threat to the US influence in the region. This is sure to develop as China seeks to increase its influence not only in the region but across the globe.

Key Judgment 1. It is highly likely that Cuba-China relations will further in an effort to challenge American influence in Latin America.

Key Judgment 2. It is highly likely that Cuba-China military intelligence cooperation will increase leading to increased Chinese surveillance of the US.

Key Judgment 3. It is highly likely that American politicians will increasingly warn against Chinese activities in Cuba which threaten the influence of the US.
