The Security Situation in Honduras and Regionalisation of the “Bukele Effect”

Honduras has faced significant security challenges, especially high crime rates, gang violence (Maras), drug trafficking, and political instability. Gang-related violence and drug trafficking have contributed to a cycle of insecurity, with weak law enforcement and governance structures exacerbating the issue (source). Efforts to address these challenges have involved domestic and international initiatives. Currently, the government seems to be looking for new approaches, including the controversial, but at-first-sight effective, “Bukele Method”.
