Violence and elections in Mozambique have worsened security challenges and increased political and economic instability. Disputes over the elections have triggered violent protests, which has affected the perceived legitimacy of the ruling Frelimo party. Simultaneously, the ongoing insurgency in the Northern province of Cabo Delgado endures, as resource-driven conflicts, religious extremism, and socio-economic grievances continue. This multiplicity of issues will have serious consequences for the country. Critical liquified natural gas (LNG) projects, regional politics, and relations with neighbouring countries like South Africa are likely to be hampered.
